Torque testers capture peak torque or display torque measurement in real time mode
Torque is important for many things. If you are measuring Horsepower, torque is the twisting force exerted by an engine on a shaft usually measured in foot-lbs if the english system.
If your torque tester measures 120 ft-lbs , That simply means your engine is twisting the shaft with 120 lbs of pressure with your wrench having a length of One foot from the center of the shaft. IN other words if you had a wrench on the end of the shaft that was a foot long you would have to apply 120 lbs at a perpendicular angle to the wrench to stop that shaft from turning
Using torque testers for examining the tightening of bolts and nuts is same principle. If the bolt is supposed to be tightened to 200 ft-lbs of torque that is the optimum amount of tightening to put on that bolt. If you try to tighten the bolt just with a wrench you might over tighten the bolt which could cause it to snap off with any extra stress.
And likewise if you under tighten it the bolt could work loose on it’s own and you also aren’t bringing the parts together close enough as they were designed for
